الكساد الكبير أو الإنهيار الكبير (بالإنجليزية Great Depression) هي أزمة اقتصادية شهدتها أمريكا في عام 1929م أدت إلى توقف المعامل عن الإنتاج, ونتج عنها أن أصبحت عائلات بكاملها تنام في أكواخ من الكرتون وتبحث عن قوتها في مخازن الأوساخ والقمامة. وقد سجلت دائرة الصحة في نيويورك أن أكثر من خُمس عدد الأطفال يعاني من سوء التغذية.

وكانت أمريكا قد بدأت بإزدهار إقتصادي في العشرينات ثم ركود ثم الإنهيار الكبير عام 1929م ثم عودة عام 1932م.

 الأسباب والنتائج

انهيار وول ستريت، شارع المال والبورصة, بعد الركود الإقتصادي وتفوق العرض على الطلب. وأدى خبر الإنهيار هذا إلى التهافت على بيع الأسهم حتى أصبح 13 مليون سهم على لائحة البيع لا قيمة لها. كما أن عشرات البنوك أعلنت إفلاسها وأغلقت مصانع أبوابها. ونتج عن ذلك 30 مليون عاطل عن العمل.

قام رجال المصارف الاميركيون بإسترجاع كميات كبيرة من المال من المصارف في ألمانيا وإنكلترا وفرنسا التي كانت تعتمد على الدولار في اقتصادها, وقد أدى مع انهيار وول ستريت إلى تخريب إقتصاد فرنسا وأيطاليا وإنكلترا وألمانيا الذي كان الوضع فيها أكثر مأساوية فقد بلغ سعر الطابع 5 ملايين مارك.

و قد ادى الكساد الكبير إلى اعادة النظر بسياسات آدم سميث الداعية إلى عدم تدخل الدولة في النشاط الاقتصادي (مبدأ اليد الخفية) و بداية عهد تطبيق نظرية كينز. ^{[بحاجة لمصدر]}

 موقف مصر من الكساد العظيم

في عام ١٩٣١ أثناء الأزمة المالية العالمية أو ما عرف بالكساد العظيم.الملك فؤاد أصدر مرسوم ملكي بإنشاء بنك التسليف الزراعي المصري، والحكومة وضعت ٤ مليون جنيه من أموالها تحت تصرف البنك (كان مبلغ هائل في ذلك الوقت).مهمة البنك كانت إنقاذ الأراضي المحجوز عليها بسبب عجز أصحابها عن السداد بفعل ظروف الأزمة والكساد العالمي.البنك تكفل بدفع المديونيات ثم قسطها لأصحابها لمدة ٥ سنين بدون فوائد.في خلال سنة مالية واحدة البنك أنقذ ٢٣٥ ألف فدان وردها لأصحابها.
