في 23 يناير 2020، فرضت الحكومة المركزية الصينية إغلاق ووخان والمدن الأخرى في هوبـِيْ في محاولة لفرض الحجر الصحي على مركز جائحة ڤيروس كورونا (كوڤيد-19). يشيع للإشارة إلى الواقعة في وسائل الإعلام باسم `` تأمين ووخان '(صينية: 武汉 封 城؛ پن‌ين: Wǔhàn fēng chéng�). على الرغم من أن منظمة الصحة العالمية، أشارت إلى أنها تجاوزت المبادئ التوجيهية الخاصة بها، إلا أنها أشادت بالخطوة، واصفة إياها بأنها "غير مسبوقة في تاريخ الصحة العامة".[2]
