في 22 فبراير 2014، صوت ڤرخوڤنا رادا بعدد أصوات 328-0[4] على عزل الرئيس ڤيكتور يانوكوڤيتش أثناء احتجاجات يورو ميدان، كنتيجة للثورة الأوكرانية.[5] أولكسندر تورتشينوڤ، نائب رئيس حزب اتكيڤشتشينا، عُين قبلها بأيام رئيس لڤرخوڤنا رادا[6] وأختير رئيساً مؤقتاً للوزراء[7] ، وبعزل يانوكوڤيتش، أصبح رئيساً لحين عقد انتخابات جديدة.


النظام الانتخابي

ولاية رئيس أوكرانيا مدتها خمس سنوات.[8][9][10] لو لم يحصل أي مرشح على أغلبية مطلقة في الجولة الأولى، يعقد استطلاع للرأي بين المرشحين الحائزين على أعلى أصوات.[11]

يمكن أن يرشح المتنافسون أنفسهم في اللجنة المركزية للانتخابات في أوكرانيا منذ 25 فبراير 2014.[18]

في مايو 2013، باتكيڤشتشينا، التحالف الديمقراطي الأوكراني من أجل الإصلاح، و"سڤوبودا"، تعهدوا بتنسيق حراكهم أثناء الحملة الرئاسية، و"بدعم المرشح الفائز من بين هذه الأحزاب في الجولة النهاية من الانتخابات".[19] في حالة تغيير الانتخابات لتنتهي في الجولة الأولى، تتعهد الأ؛زاب الثلاثة بالموافقة على مرشح فائز واحد.[19]
