خلفية القنزعة Opisthocomidae تضم نوعاً واحداً هو الهوازن (Opisthocomus hoazin) Hoazin الذي اختلف علماء تصنيف الطيور في خصائصه ولهذا أفردت له فصيلة مستقلة، إذ تشبه بنية الجناحين للفراخ الصغيرة حالة الأركيوبتريكس Archaeopteryx الطائر الأثري الذي يشكل الحلقة الواصلة بين الزواحف والطيور. وتنقف البيضة فتخرج منها الفراخ العارية من الرياش، وتسمح المخالب التي تحملها الإصبع الثانية والثالثة في الجناحين بتسلق الأغصان وكأنها تسير رباعية الأطراف وتشبه الزواحف أكثر من الطيور في هذه المرحلة. وإذا سقطت في الماء يمكنها السباحة والغطس بسهولة وهذا ما لا تستطيعه الدجاجيات الأخرى. ولهذا يعدّ الهوازن مستحاثة حية نادرة، وهو يعيش في البرازيل و بيرو ويحمل في رأسه عند اكتمال نموه قنزعة أو قنبرة تميزه تشبه الهدهد.
