سورامين هو عقار يُستخدم لعلاج مرض النوم الأفريقي وعمى النهر.^[1]^[2] وهو العلاج المفضل لمرض النوم بدون التأثير على الجهاز العصبي المركزي.^[3] ويؤخذ حقناً في الوريد.^[4]

سورامين دواء طور بواسطةأوسكار درسل ورتشارد باير بألمانيا عام 1916 ومايزال يسوَّق لشركة باير بإسم Germanin.

يستعمل في الانسان لعلاج مرض النوم sleeping sickness التى تسببه ال trypanosome .^[5]

الكيمياء

الصيغة الجزيئية للسورامين هى C₅₁H₃₄N₆O₂₃S₆ It is a symmetric molecule in the center of which lies urea, NH-CO-NH. يحتوى سورامين على 8 حلقة بنزين benzene rings, 4 of which are fused in pairs (naphthalene), 4 amide groups in addition to the one of urea and six sulfonate groups. عندما يعطى كعلاج فانه يحوى 6 ذرات صوديوم التى تكون ملحا مع 6 مجموعة sulphonate.

الجرعات

سورامين يعطى كجرعة أسبوعية وحيدةفى الأوردة لمدة 6 أسابيع كل جرعة 1 جرام من المادة الفعالة

التأثيرات الجانبية

أهم الآثار الجانبية هى الدوخة والدوران والرغبة في القيئ, وحوالى 90% من المرضى سوف يعانون من الطفح الجلدى ووخز مثل الدبابيس يختفى بعد عدة أيام بدون ضرورة لأيقاف العلاج.وتوجد امكانية أكثر من مصادفة ل adrenal cortical damage but only a smaller proportion سوف يحتاجون الى علاج احلالى بالكورتيكوستيرودات.وسوف يسبب سورامين تعكير البول ولكنه ليس بذى شأن.
