In the territory of the town of Vetren there are about 65 sites with remains of ancient cultures. In 1900, a hoard of silver coins was discovered. It contains over 200 thalers of Maria Theresa . Just a few years ago, an ancient jar full of silver coins was rediscovered during excavations. Remains of a late antique church with traces of wall paintings are known . [4]

Vetren was founded in 1403. At the time of the Ottoman rule, the village was not very large, but it gradually grew and in 1946 its population numbered 6556 inhabitants. Due to the crisis in viticulture (the livelihood of the people of Vetren is still viticulture and agriculture), the confiscation of land and livestock for the creation of the TKZS in the 1950s and the industrialization of the country, a large part of the people in Vetren scattered to different parts of Bulgaria. They settled there and so other villages adopted the name Vetren - in Burgas and Silistren.

According to the story of a German traveler from the 16th century named Hans Dernschwam, who went "at his own expense", as he himself reported, together with an Austrian delegation to Constantinople, on the way back "...we arrived from Plovdiv at 4 o'clock, not we stopped to eat at a village called Vetren in Bulgarian, otherwise Hisardjik. This is a large Bulgarian village. They have 2 popes, no sign of a Muslim. The people are nice and strong, in many houses they had their own wine to sell, young wine."

The women, and especially the maidens, weave all over their heads many braids one over the other, like a net; they wear pendants in their ears, around their necks they wear chains and cords, on which hang various charms, blue glass beads, brass coins; some wear hats made of white shells..." . K. St.

At the outbreak of the Balkan War in 1912, two veterans volunteered in the Macedonian-Odrina militia [5] .

The settlement is mentioned in a criminal chronicle of March 7 , 1923 [6]

On April 29 , 2003, Vetren was declared a city by Decision No. 254 of the Council of Ministers of April 18, 2003 (promulgated, SG No. 40 of April 29, 2003).

Vetrenci cured him in an extraordinary way. Lamartine was fascinated by the hospitality and self-sacrifice of kestrels to help their neighbor in trouble. Now in Vetren there is a plaque "Eternal gratitude to Lamartine" and in the community center "Hristo Smirnenski" Vetren an urn with soil from Lamartine's grave is kept.
  • في 1941 , German Field Marshal Wilhelm List visited Vetren.
