جامعة كلكتا (University of Calcutta، ويُطلق عليها بشكل غير رسمي Calcutta University أو CU) is a collegiate public state university located in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), West Bengal, India established on 24 January 1857.[3] It was the first institution in Asia to be established as a multidisciplinary and secular Western-style university.[بحاجة لمصدر]

Within India it is recognized as a "Five-Star University" And Accredited "A" Grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council and declared as a "University With Potential For Excellence" & a "Centre with Potential for Excellence In Particular Area" by the University Grants Commission.[4][5]

Its alumni and faculty include several heads of state and government, and four Nobel laureates.[6] The university has the highest number of students who have cleared the doctoral entrance eligibility exam in Natural Science & Arts conducted by Government of India's National Eligibility Test to become eligible to pursue research with a full scholarship awarded by the Government of India.[7]

Internationally, the University of Calcutta was ranked 801-1000 in the QS World University Rankings of 2019.[8] The same rankings ranked it 134 in Asia[9] and 68 among BRICS nations.[10]

In India, University Calcutta ranked 12 overall by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2019[11] and 5 among universities.[12]
