جاك بارزون Jacques Barzun (و.1907- 25 أكتوبر 2012). مؤرخ وعالم تربوي أمريكي. كتب كثيرًا عن الثقافة والتربية وتاريخ الفكر. عمل بالتدريس في جامعات كلومبيا، ونيويورك من عام 1927-1975م. اشتغل أيضًا رئيسًا للجامعة وعميدًا للكليات في كولومبيا من عام 1958-1967م. وجد كتابه المعلِّم في أمريكا (1945م) استحسانًا دوليًا. وفي كتابه بيت الفكر (1959م) تحدث عن التهديدات الحديثة لحياة العقل. وعاد إلى معالجة موضوع الممارسة التربوية في كتاب الجامعة الأمريكية (1968م). وينتقد بارزون المكانة الطاغية للعلم وللتفكير العلمي في المجتمعات الحديثة وذلك في كتاب: العلم التسلية العظيمة (1964م). أما رائعة بارزون كمؤرخ فهي برليوز والقرن الرومانسي (1950م) التي حلل فيها حياة المؤلف الموسيقي الفرنسي هكتور برليوز وأعماله وأثره. والكتاب عن برليوز ـ مثله مثل كتابه عن دارون، وماركس، وفاجنر (1941م) ـ يتميز بالمهارة الفنية.

وُلد جاك مارتن بارزون في كريتـِيْ، فرنسا، بالقرب من باريس. انتقل إلى الولايات المتحدة عام 1920م وتخرج في جامعة كولومبيا عام 1927م. حاز درجة الدكتوراه من جامعة كلومبيا عام 1932م، وأصبح مواطنًا أمريكيًا عام 1933.

عمل بارزون ناقداً تاريخياً وأسهم في عدة أبحاث تاريخية مهمة. كان حلمه دراسة القانون والسياسة، ولكنه فضل التفرغ للكتابات التاريخية والنقدية. وبدأ مسيرته الأدبية والعلمية كاتباً ومعلماً مربياً وصار أستاذاً للتاريخ بجامعة كولومبية. ومنذ ذلك الوقت وقف بارزون حياته على التعليم والكتابة والسفر بهدف الاطلاع والبحث. دفعه حبه للقانون إلى دراسة مونتسكيو Montesquieu والبحث في موضوع الحقوق الوراثية للنبلاء وعامة الشعب الذي أثار جدلاً كبيراً في فرنسة. وقد بحث في تاريخ هذه المسألة ورواسبها ونتائجها في كتابه «العرق الفرنسي» The French Race الذي نشر عام 1932، وحصل به على درجة الدكتوراه.

حصل بارزون عام 1933 على الجنسية الأمريكية وسافر في منحة دراسية قدمها له مجلس الجمعيات العلمية الأمريكية ليتابع البحث في الموضوع نفسه وتشعباته، ولخص نتائج بحثه في كتاب جديد اسمه «العرق» The Race عام 1937. وقد حاول في كتبه الأخرى ربط تاريخ هذه الأفكار والحقوق بالعلوم الطبيعية والاجتماعية والفن، وانتقد في كتابه «التسلية المجيدة» (1964) The Glorious Entertainment السيطرة الزائدة للعلوم والتفكير العلمي في العالم الحديث.

 إسهاماته

أسهم بارزون إسهاماً كبيراً في المجال التربوي في أمريكة، وقدّم عملاً مهماً يُعدّ مرجعاً عالمياً في مجال التربية والتعليم وهو «المعلم في أمريكة» (1945) The Teacher in America، أكد فيه أهمية تلقي الطلاب الثقافة العامة الشاملة قبل البدء في مجال التخصص. وفي كتابه «موطن العقل» (1959) The House of the Intellect، الذي يعد أهم كتبه التربوية، انتقد بارزون النظام التربوي الأمريكي لكونه ينتج أشباه مفكرين يسحرهم الفن ويسيطر عليهم التفكير العلمي البحت. وقد ناقش أيضاً الخطر الذي يهدد وجود العقل في العالم الحديث، وألقى الضوء على العملية التربوية في كتابه «الجامعة الأمريكية كيف تعمل، وإلى أين تسير» (1969) The American University: How it Runs, Where it is Going.

وقد أكد في مقالة مهمة نشرت في مجلة «لايف» عام1950 أن النجاح الحقيقي لنظام التربية والتعليم هو أن يجد الطالب متعة في تدريب عقله على التفكير والتحليل. ولعل أهم كتبه كمؤرخ هو «برليوز وعصر الإبداعية» (1950) Berlioz and the Romantic Century في مجلدين، وفيه حلل بارزون بأسلوب أدبي رفيع حياة المؤلف الموسيقي الفرنسي الشهير هكتور برليوز[ر] وأعماله.

إن أسلوب بارزون في دراسة التاريخ وفي النقد الأدبي أسلوب إنساني انتقائي ينفرد باعتماده على عدة حضارات وأفكار دون اللجوء إلى إيديولوجية مطلقة.
