Year 728 (DCCXXVIII) was a leap year starting on Thursday of the Julian calendar. It was the 728th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 728th year of the 1st millennium, the 28th year of the 8th century, and the 9th year of the 720s decade. The denomination "728" for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini calendar era became the prevalent method in Europe for naming years.

واصل بن عطاء (ح. 700 - 748)، تلميذ الحسن البصري يؤسس مدرسة المعتزلة، منشقاً عن العامة. وفيها ينفي خلق القرآن ويصم التثليث بالشرك. ويقارن بين حرية الإرادة والإيمان بالعناية الإلهية.

في تونس الحالية، اكتمال الحملة الثانية لتشييد جامع القيروان، أول وأهم مسجد في المغرب العربي، والذي أمر ببنائه الخليفة الأموي هشام وأشرف على البناء الوالي بشر بن صفوان (منذ 724).

الملك Liutprand of the Lombards occupies all of the Exarchate of Ravenna. He advances towards Rome along the Via Cassia, and is met at the city of Sutri by Pope Gregory II, near the borders of the دوقية روما. Liutprand signs the Donation of Sutri, by which parts of Latium are given to the papacy (the first extension of papal territory in Italy). This marks the historical foundation of the الدويلات الپاپوية.^[1]
