The template creates a citation to the taxonomy browser webpage for a genus or higher ranked taxon in the AlgaeBase taxonomic database. Normally, {{AlgaeBase genus}} would be used for a genus; it creates a citation to the information webpage.

 Usage

• {{AlgaeBase taxon|name=TAXON NAME|id=#####}}
• {{AlgaeBase taxon|mode=cs1 (default) OR cs2|name=TAXON NAME|id=#####|access-date=DATE}}

The name parameter should give the taxon name (with italic markup if a genus).
The id parameter should be the number at the end of the url, often a 4 or 5 digit number. For example, if the url is http://www.algaebase.org/browse/taxonomy/detail/?taxonid=4937, the highlighted number, 4937, would be put into the id field if you wanted to include a link to the AlgaeBase page on Closteriaceae).
The mode parameter with a value of "cs2" can be used to generate a cs2 style citation; the default is cs1.
The access-date parameter gives the date on which AlgaeBase was accessed.

Examples:

• {{AlgaeBase taxon |name=Closteriaceae |id=4937}} → Guiry, M.D.; Guiry, G.M. "Closteriaceae". AlgaeBase. University of Galway.
• {{AlgaeBase taxon |mode=cs2 |name=Closteriaceae |id=4937 |access-date=2022-02-18}} → Guiry, M.D.; Guiry, G.M., "Closteriaceae", AlgaeBase, University of Galway, retrieved 2022-02-18

The template can be used for genera, provided the ID is taken from the same form of URL. It links to the taxonomy browser webpage for a genus rather than the information webpage. Thus:

• {{AlgaeBase taxon|name=''Closterium''|id=6873}} → Guiry, M.D.; Guiry, G.M. "Closterium". AlgaeBase. University of Galway.
