شراپنل Shrapnel قذيفة مدفعية اخترعها الضابط هنري شراپنل الذي رُقِّي بعد اختراعه إلى رتبة فريق في الجيش البريطاني (1761 – 1842م). تحتوي القنبلة على عدد من القذائف، وشحنة من البارود التي تفجر القنبلة. استخدم الجيش البريطاني أول قذيفة من هذا النوع في سورينام عام 1804م. وخلال الحرب العالمية الأولى (1914 – 1918م) كانت هذه القنبلة من القذائف الأكثر فاعلية وتأثيرًا ضد الأفراد. ومنذ الحرب العالمية الثانية (1939 – 1945م) تشير هذه الكلمة عمومًا إلى الشظايا المعدنيـة لغلاف القذيفـة، التي يتم قذفها بشحنة متفجرة، على الرغم من أنه مازالت تُستخـدم بعـض أنواع القذائـف التي يتم تعبئتها بشظايا معدنية.

This engraving shows a 12-pounder U.S. Shrapnel Shell ca. 1865. It is fitted with a Borman fuze, In the cutaway view, the dark grey is the wall of the shell, the medium grey is sulphur resin, the light grey are the musket balls, and the black is the bursting charge.
