ثورنتون وايلدر Thornton Wilder (عاش 17 أبريل 1897 - 7 ديسمبر 1975)، وهو يعتبر من أبرز كتاب المسرح الأمريكي خلال الفترة بين 1927 حين نشر مسرحيته الأولى «النفير سوف يصدح»، وحتى عام 1962 حين كتب مسرحية رائعة عن سان فرانسوا الإسيزي. وبلغ إنتاج وايلدر حوالى 40 مسرحية، من أبرزها «بلدتنا» و «هربنا بجلدنا» و «عشاء الميلاد الطويل»... وأعماله تميزت بنفحة شعرية لا تخلو من يأس، مع إيمان عميق بالإنسان، خارج إطار ضغوط الحياة اليومية.
