المشطيات Ctenophore حيوان بحري صغير شفاف، يعيش في محيطات العالم. وتُسمَّى المشطيات كذلك الهلاميات المشطية وعنب الثعلب البحري. ويمكن لجسم المشطي أن يتخذ شكل كرة أو كشتبان أو حزام. وهو يشبه السمك الهلامي إلى حد ما. ويتراوح حجم معظم أنواعه بين حجم حبة الفاصوليا وحجم الكشتبان. وهناك نوع يسمى حزام فينوس شبيه بالحزام فعلاً ويمكن أن ينمو إلى طول يبلغ 90سم.

شرح

ويستمد الحيوان اسمه من الأحزمة الثمانية التي تشبه المشط الموجودة على جانبي جسمه. وتتألف الأمشاط من مجموعة الأهداب (تراكيب شعرية دقيقة). وتتحرك المشطيات ببطء في الماء بتحريك هذه الأهداب. وفي بعض الأنواع تصدر الأمشاط بريقًا من الضوء
