في 7 أكتوبر 2023، قام مقاومون فلسطينيون من قطاع غزة بالهجوم على تجمع كبير في مهرجان موسيقي بمدينة رعيم الإسرائيلية، مما أسفر عن مقتل أكثر من 260 شخصاً.[3] العملية نفذتها حماس، بعد فترة وجيزة من بدء عملية طوفان الأقصى.[4] احتجز المسلحون العشرات من الحضور كرهائن واقتادوهم إلى قطاع غزة؛ ولم تُعرف بعد حالتهم ومكان وجودهم على وجه التحديد.[5]
