معركة سولواي موس Battle of Solway Moss نشبت في سولواي موس بالقرب من نهر إسك في الجانب الإنگليزي من الحدود الاسكتلندية-الإنگليزية في نوفمبر 1542 بين القوات الإنگليز والاسكتلندية.
الملك الاسكتلندي جيمس الخامس رفض الانشقاق على الكنيسة الكاثوليكية الرومانية، كما طلب منه عمه الملك هنري الثامن، الذي شن غارة هائلة على جنوب غرب اسكتلندة. الجيش الاسكتلندي that marched against them was poorly led and organised, and many Scots were either captured or drowned in the river. أخبار الهزيمة يُعتقد أنها عجـّلت بالوفاة المبكرة لجيمس الخامس.

خلفية
حين انشق هنري الثامن من إنگلترة عن الكنيسة الكاثوليكية، طلب من جيمس الخامس من اسكتلندة، ابن أخيه، أن يفعل الشيء نفسه. James ignored his uncle's request and further insulted him by refusing to meet with Henry at York. Furious, Henry VIII sent troops against Scotland. In retaliation for the massive English raid into Scotland, James responded by assigning Robert, Lord Maxwell, the Scottish Warden of West March, the task of raising an army.[3][4]
