مذبحة أمريتسار أو مذبحة جاليان‌والا باغ حدثت في الحديقة العامة في المدينة الهندية الشمالية أمريتسار في يوم الأحد 13 أبريل 1919. اطلاق النار أمر به الجنرال رجينالد داير. والذي حدث أن 'Baisakhi، واحدة من أكبر المهرجانات البنجاب الدينية فإن خمسونا من جنود الجيش الهندي البريطاني بقيادة العميد داير ريجنالد وبدأ اطلاق النار على تجمع من الرجال العزل والنساء والأطفال دون سابق إنذار. أمر داير المشاة الخمسين التابعين له بالركوع و رفع بنادقهم وأمرهم بإطلاق النار. [1] أمر داير الجنود بإعادة تعبئة بنادقهم عدة مرات وأمروا بإطلاق النار لقتل.[2] مسؤلوا مصادر راج البريطاني قدرت القتلى حوالى 379، وأصيب 1100. [3] وأشار الجراح المدني الدكتور سميث أن هناك قد قل 1526 (شخص) في مذبحة أمريتسار .[4] ومع ذلك، فإن عدد الضحايا قد أحيط به علم الكونغرس الوطني الهندي وكان أكثر من 1000، أو مع ما يقرب من 1500 شخص قد قتلوا.[5]

تلقى رابندرانات طاغور أخبار المذبحة في 22 مايو 1919. فحاول تنظيم مظاهرة احتجاج في كلكتا وأخيراً قرر التنازل عن لقب "فارس" البريطاني كـ"عمل رمزي للاحتجاج".[6]
