"On this site was born the American Legion, March 15-17, 1919." — A detailed explanation of this plaque may be found here: http://www.amerlegiondeptfrance.org/files/Founding_of_the_American_Legion.pdf. The first caucus of the American legion was held in the Cirque Métropole who stood there until its demolition in 1930.
