وليام تكومسه شرمان William Tecumseh Sherman ( /tɪˈkʌmsə/; 8 فبراير 1820 – 14 فبراير 1891)، هو جندي، رجل أعمل، معلم ومؤلف أمريكي. كان جنرال في جيش الاتحاد أثناء الحرب الأهلية الأمريكية (1861–65)، والتي حصل من أجلها على تقدير من أجل قيادته المتميزة للاستراتيجية العسكرية وكذلك انتقادات بسبب قسوة سياسات "الأرض المحروقة" التي تبناها أثناء الحرب الشاملة ضد الولايات الكونفدرالية.

خدم شرمان تحت قيادة الجنرال يوليسيس گرانت عام 1862 و1863 أثناء الحملات التي أدت إلى سقوط معقل الكونفدرالية في ڤيكسبورگ على نهر المسيسپي وبلغت ذروتها بتعقب الجيوش الكونفدرالية في ولاية تنسي. عام 1864، خلف شرمان گرانت كقائد لجيش الاتحاد في المسرح الغربي للحرب. شرع في قيادة قواته لإسقاط مدينة أطلنطا، النجاح العسكري الذي ساهم في إعادة انتخاب الرئيس الأمريكي أبراهام لنكولن. مسيرة شرمان اللاحقة عبر جورجيا والكاروليناتين مثلت مزيد من التقويض لقدرة الكونفدرالية على الاستمرار في القتال. وافق على استسلام جميع الجيوش الكونفدرالية في الكاروليناتين، جورجيا، وفلوريدا في أبريل 1865.

عندما تولى گرانت رئاسة الولايات المتحدة عام 1869، خلفه شرمان كقائد عام للجيش (1869–83). وبحكم منصبه، كان مسئولاً عن مشاركة الجيش الأمريكي في الحروب الهندية على مدار الخمسة عشر سنة التالية، في غرب الولايات المتحدة. رفض بثبات الانجرار إلى السياسة وعام 1875 نشر مذكراته، واحدة من أشهر الروايات المباشرة عن الحرب الأهلية. اشتهر عن المؤرخ العسكري البريطاني ب. هـ. ليدل هارت قوله أن شرمان كان "أول جنرال معاصر".
