النيويورك تايمز تأسست في 18 سبتمبر 1851 على يد الصحفي والسياسي هنري جارڤيس ريموند والمصرفي السابق جورج جونز تحت اسم نيو-يورك ديلي تايمز. الصحيفة غيرت اسمها إلى النيويورك تايمز في 1857.
