 البدايات

يعتبر هيوم من أهم الشخصيات في تاريخ ايرلندا الشمالية فقد تحصل سنة 1998 على جائزة نوبل للسلام مع دافيد تريمبل لجهودهما في إحلال السلام بعد توقيعهما اتفاق الجمعة العظيمة.

منذ سنة 1983 أصبح هيوم واحدا من 18 نائبا في لندن في مجلس العموم . هو كذلك واحد من 3 نواب أوروبيون ينمثلون ايرلندا الشمالية.

أعلن جون في الرابع من فبراير 2004م انسحابه من الحياة السياسية.
